Two VOWS residents have won seats on the Keller ISD Board of Trustees as a result of the Saturday May 12th election - Kevin Stevenson (Place 2) and Lara Lee Hogg (Place 5). Hogg received 68.55% of the votes in her race while Stevenson had 49.36% in a five-candidate field, which normally results in a run-off election between the top two vote recipients. The second-place candidate, however, conceded defeat, and the run-off election has been cancelled.

Congratulations to Lara Lee and Kevin!

Board Candidates from Keller ISD and Northwest ISD Invited

Fort Worth, Texas - March 25, 2007 - The North Fort Worth Alliance will host a forum for candidates for the Keller ISD and the Northwest ISD School Board elections on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Heritage Church of Christ. The Heritage Church of Christ is located at 4201 Heritage Trace Parkway in Fort Worth, Texas. Attendees will have an opportunity to hear prepared answers by the candidates to questions presented earlier to the candidates. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the candidates for one-on-one discussion.

Tarrant County is one of the fastest-growing counties of the United States fueled by growth in the Alliance corridor in North Fort Worth. This has led to significant growth challenges for the Northwest ISD and Keller ISD, including school overcrowding and infrastructure coordination problems with the City of Fort Worth and other municipalities. The candidates will be asked to address these and other important issues.

Do your kids forget to tell you things? Is this the first you have heard about Project Graduation? Don’t feel like the only one. I’m here to give you a little inside scoop!! It’s for Seniors at Central High School. What is Project Graduation you ask? It’s an all night chaperoned lock-in after Graduation from 11-7 for Seniors to party with their fellow classmates one last time. We provide a drug free, alcohol free atmosphere featuring activities such as Poker, Jump Houses, Sumo Wrestling, Jousting, just to name a few.

There will be tons of “Good” food. Last year we were provided with a Money Booth where the seniors got in and tried to get as much as they could in a few short minutes! There will be door prizes galore such as TV’s, Mini Fridges, DVD players, iPods, so many prizes we can’t begin to write them all down. Every Senior will go home with a goodie bag. Last year each attending senior went home with a Flashdriver and a bag filled with coupons and freebies galore. What a great gift for a college student to start off with.

Parents and Seniors if you haven’t bought your ticket to this Fabulous Event, it isn’t too late. Just mail your check or money order to the address below in the amount of $100. Include your students name, your name, your address and phone number and an email address to:

Keller ISD would like to thank all of the individuals who submitted their names to be considered for the district's Boundary Adjustment Review Committee (BARC). We had several hundred requests to serve on the committee, and Keller ISD cannot thank our parents enough for their overwhelming response.

The first meeting of the BARC will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31 in the Keller ISD Education Center, Texas Rooms II and III. These meetings are open to the public and community members are invited and encouraged to attend.

Keller ISD's BARC was formed in July of individuals from all three current high school feeder patterns. The 44 members, who consist of parents of children grades K-8, will come together to review future high school attendance zones. Membership of the committee is comprised of three representatives and two alternates from each campus level (elementary, intermediate and middle) and two alternates. If a member resigns, then an alternate will step in as a full member. The committee members were chosen at random from applications submitted by e-mail and U.S. mail.

The Keller ISD Board of Trustees has charged this committee to "carefully, deliberately review and study the district's enrollment, current growth, and future growth; review capacity information at each Keller ISD high school and determine appropriate target capacity for new high school boundaries; Review criteria for establishing new KISD high school boundaries; Determine process for assessing viability of boundary options; review options created/presented utilizing the criteria for viability; recommend, if so determined, a scenario and/or scenarios for high school boundary re-alignment, to the community and the Keller ISD Board of Trustees."

The agenda for the first meeting includes a demographic update, bond impact review, time lines and a question and answer session. Please note that the committee will not be addressing individual high school feeder patterns until after the Nov. 7 bond election, at which time Keller ISD voters will have made a decision regarding the fourth high school.

The BARC will meet several times over the next few months, and will present a proposal to the Board of Trustees in the spring of 2007.

For more information about the BARC and a list of its members, please visit the Keller ISD website. If you would like to send the committee an e-mail, you may do so at the following address: boundarycommittee@kellerisd.net

The Fort Worth City Council passed unanimously a resolution to pay for bus service for VOWS students who will be attending the Trinity Meadows Intermediate and Trinity Springs Middle schools. We would like to thank all the residents from VOWS who attended the meeting and a special thanks to Peter Stamps, Lara Lee Hogg and Pauline Veness for getting up and speaking to support the resolution. We would also like to thank Sal Espino for creating and presenting the resolution, and working with other council members to get this resolution passed.

Please take advantage of this opportunity to have your student participate in this busing service, which will reduce traffic congestion and improve safety at these two new schools.

If you don't know where to go to get to the bus, simply use this special service to locate the bus stop nearest your home.

Click here to visit the website: Keller ISD Bus Routes

Again, this will be a free service for all the KISD students attending these schools until the proper infrastructure (signal lights, sidewalks) are finished.

If you live in Woodland Springs, and you have 1 child or more who is attending the new Trinity Meadows Intermediate or Trinity Springs Middle school, here is your opportunity to save $240 per student on bus transportation.

Simply attend the City of Fort Worth Council Meeting tonight, August 8th, 2006 starting at 7:00 PM. The meeting is being held at the City of Fort Worth city council chambers on the second floor of 1000 Throckmorton Street (here's a MAP)

This resolution will pay for bus service, but more importantly, it will let our City Council know that we are a well organized and powerful neighborhood who deserves their attention. Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated.

Dear North FW Residents :

As I indicated to some of you all, I have been working behind the scenes to try to work something out and have been in contact with FW city staff and Keller ISD. Last Friday, we - City of FW representatives - met with Keller ISD.

My priority was the safety of the schoolchildren . I wanted to see how we can eliminate the pay to ride program as well as fast tracking the sidewalks and work on signalization at that intersection all in an effort to have a safe passage for the schoolchildren. In addition, I wanted to see if we could eliminate the pay to ride program if the City of FW and other partners could help with the busing costs. The meeting with Keller ISD went very well and was very productive.

Therefore, I initiated a Council Proposal (CP) to be considered at Tuesday's City Council meeting. The proposal, if approved by Council, would do the following:

1. Authorize the initiation of an agreement with Keller ISD so that there would be free bus service for students within a two mile radious of the new schools located at the intersection of the Keller Hicks-Alta Vista Road until the installation of sidewalks and signalization at the intersection are completed at a cost not to exceed $120,000 .

2. Authorize city staff to enter into public-private partnerships to help underwrite the cost of the pay to ride program. Centurion American Development Group has pledged $30,000 and we are working with other public-private partners to help offset the costs.

3. Expedite the construction of the sidewalks and make sure that we had the signalization in place as well. It is my understanding that once there is a safe passage to the schools, the program to help underwrite the costs of the bus program would cease.

A council proposal is a procedural vehicle if signed by two council members that allows a policy item to be included at a council meeting. Mayor Pro Tem Kathleen Hicks and representative of Council District 8, has agreed to sign the council proposal.

KELLER, Texas – The Keller Independent School District recognizes that there will be issues regarding transportation to and from its new schools located near Keller Hicks and Alta Vista roads. Because of this, the district will offer a new pay-per-ride bus service that will be available to those students attending these campuses who would otherwise be ineligible to ride the bus.

Due to the road conditions, the amount of traffic and the absence of traffic control signals and sidewalks in the area, Keller ISD will offer this fee-based bus service for the students attending Trinity Meadows Intermediate, Trinity Springs Middle and Independence Elementary schools.

To provide families with an opportunity to evaluate the service, the district will be providing the first eight days (Aug. 9-18) free of charge. The buses will pick up students at various locations throughout the community schools’ attendance zones. If parents elect to continue using the service after Aug. 18, they will be charged an applicable fee for the service. In an effort to make the service affordable to families with a limited income, discounted fees will be offered to students meeting the USDA free and reduced lunch criteria.

The fee schedule is per child and can be paid in an annual lump sum or by the semester. It is as follows:

Fall Semester

Spring Semester

Entire Year

Paid

$125

$135

$240

Free

$ 50

$ 60

$ 90

Reduced

$ 25

$ 35

$ 45

Payments will be due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18. For families unable to pay by Aug. 18, the district will provide a 30-day grace period. Applications and payment of services can be made through the Keller ISD Transportation Office located at 11300 Alta Vista in Fort Worth.

Bus routes will be available on the Keller ISD website before the weekend in the parents section under the “bus routes” link. If for any reason you are unable to access the website or you have a child attending Independence Elementary, living south of Keller Hicks Road and west of Alta Vista, please call Durham School Services at (817) 337-3725.

For more information, contact KISD Director of Communications Jason Meyer at 817-744-1021.

KELLER, Texas — During Keller ISD’s July 24 Board of Trustees meeting, members directed the district’s administration to develop a pay-to-ride bus service to three of its new campuses.

Because Keller ISD’s concerns are about children’s safety and education, the district is in the process of developing a fee-based transportation plan for Trinity Springs Middle, Trinity Meadows Intermediate and Independence Elementary schools. All three campuses are located near the intersection of Keller-Hicks and Alta Vista roads in North Fort Worth.

Typically, Keller ISD does not offer bus services for students who live within two miles of a campus.

“The Board of Trustees directed us to develop a pay-to-ride shuttle service for students with several pick-up and drop-off spots near the schools to ensure safe travel on these roads, giving students plenty of time to make it to class and begin the school day,” said Dr. James R. Veitenheimer, superintendent of schools. “It is also the district’s hope this service will also alleviate some of the traffic that will be in the area of the schools as well.”

This service will also be available to students who would normally be walking to Trinity Meadows and Trinity Springs and Independence Elementary. Instead of walking to the campus, students will be able to go to the shuttle stop and be driven safely to school.

“This solution will provide residents in the affected area with transportation assistance as the city of Fort Worth addresses a solution to the road issue,” Veitenheimer said.

More information about the shuttle service will be made available in the coming days on the Keller ISD web site, and the district’s administration will contact the affected families when plans are finalized by the administrators and the district’s transportation service.

For more information, contact KISD Director of Communications Jason Meyer at 817-744-1021.
