Keller ISD would like to thank all of the individuals who submitted their names to be considered for the district's Boundary Adjustment Review Committee (BARC). We had several hundred requests to serve on the committee, and
Keller ISD [3] cannot thank our parents enough for their overwhelming response.
The first meeting of the BARC will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31 in the Keller ISD Education Center, Texas Rooms II and III. These meetings are open to the public and community members are invited and encouraged to attend.
Keller ISD's BARC was formed in July of individuals from all three current high school feeder patterns. The 44 members, who consist of parents of children grades K-8, will come together to review future high school attendance zones. Membership of the committee is comprised of three representatives and two alternates from each campus level (elementary, intermediate and middle) and two alternates. If a member resigns, then an alternate will step in as a full member. The committee members were chosen at random from applications submitted by e-mail and U.S. mail.
The Keller ISD Board of Trustees has charged this committee to "carefully, deliberately review and study the district's enrollment, current growth, and future growth; review capacity information at each Keller ISD high school and determine appropriate target capacity for new high school boundaries; Review criteria for establishing new KISD high school boundaries; Determine process for assessing viability of boundary options; review options created/presented utilizing the criteria for viability; recommend, if so determined, a scenario and/or scenarios for high school boundary re-alignment, to the community and the Keller ISD Board of Trustees."
The agenda for the first meeting includes a demographic update, bond impact review, time lines and a question and answer session. Please note that the committee will not be addressing individual high school feeder patterns until after the Nov. 7 bond election, at which time Keller ISD voters will have made a decision regarding the fourth high school.
The BARC will meet several times over the next few months, and will present a proposal to the Board of Trustees in the spring of 2007.
